Odisha Train Accident: 77 Dead Bodies Found So Far, According to Officials

South Eastern Railways announced on Monday that 77 dead from the Balasore three-train collision tragedy had been identified so far.
It further stated that monetary compensation is being provided to the deceased and injured victims’ next of kin.

“In the tragic accident (Balasore train accident), many passengers were killed or injured.” “Rescue operations were completed, and injured passengers were transported to nearby hospitals,” South Eastern Railway said in a news release.

“The mortal remains of the deceased victims are being returned to their families.” “As of now, 77 bodies of the deceased have been identified in Balasore, Soro, and Bahanagabazar,” the announcement continued.
On June 2, trains 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandal Exp and 12864 Sir M Visvervaraya-Howrah Superfast Express derailed near Bahanagabazar railway station.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw offered a ten lakh rupee ex-gratia, while the Prime Minister’s Office announced a two lakh rupee ex-gratia for families who lost members in the disaster.

“Though no compensation can adequately compensate the bereaved families, monetary compensation is being granted to the deceased and injured victims of this tragic incident as an Ex Gratia,” South Eastern Railway said.

Survivors and family members of the victims can go to the Balasore station, hospital, or call the Balasore helpline numbers (8249591559, 7978418322, Rly no. 64810, 9439981999) to collect their ex-gratia relief by presenting proper documentation, according to the press release.
