Today, a gunman shot and hospitalized Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico after a cabinet meeting in the central town of Handlova. In the aftermath, visuals show his bodyguards swiftly moving him into his armored limousine. Dennik N daily reported, through their on-scene reporter, that police have detained the suspected gunman, according to news agency AFP.

NEXTA, slovak PM shot multiple times, in serious condition
Eastern European media outlet NEXTA reported on X, citing local sources, that the Prime Minister was shot multiple times. One to the abdomen, one to the head. He’s in serious condition,” NEXTA stated in the post. EU chief Ursula von der Leyen condemned the “vile attack” on Robert Fico. I strongly condemn the vile attack on Prime Minister Robert Fico. Such acts of violence have no place in our society and undermine democracy, our most precious common good. My thoughts are with PM Fico and his family,” von der Leyen posted on X. Slovak President Zuzana Caputova condemned the “brutal and reckless” attack on the Prime Minister.
Footage from the aftermath of the attack shows his bodyguards placing him inside his armored limousine. According to Dennik N daily, whose reporter witnessed the security guards lifting the premier into the car, police have detained the suspected gunman, as reported by AFP.
