Ukrainian Drone Strike Kills 12 in Tatarstan, 39 Injured

The latest attack comes as Russia and Ukraine continue to intensify their long-range strikes. Both sides have increased the use of drones and missiles this year. The escalation has also caused a rise in civilian casualties, according to the United Nations. Ukrainian officials said Russian forces also carried out a deadly attack near the front line. A Russian artillery strike killed five people in the village of Bugaivka in Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region. The regional prosecutor’s office said Russian forces launched a heavy artillery attack on a residential area on August 10. The strike damaged several houses and killed five people. Authorities also released a picture showing a house that had been reduced to rubble after the attack.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces shot down 456 Ukrainian drones during overnight attacks. The ministry did not provide details about how many drones reached their intended targets. Tatarstan authorities had earlier described the Ukrainian assault as a “massive” drone attack. Ukraine also reported a large Russian drone assault during the same period. Belgorod lies close to the Ukrainian border and has faced repeated attacks during the war. Ukrainian officials also reported another deadly incident in the Kherson region. They said a Russian drone struck a taxi in the frontline area. The attack killed a man, according to local authorities. These incidents came as both countries continued their intense overnight drone operations. The attacks have added to concerns over civilian safety in areas far from the main front line.

The latest strikes show how the Russia-Ukraine war has expanded beyond traditional battlefield operations. Drones now allow both sides to attack targets hundreds of kilometres away. Energy infrastructure has become a key target, especially in Russia’s industrial regions.
