The United States has suspended all foreign aid and ordered a review of financial assistance to ensure alignment with the America First agenda. The move comes after President Donald Trump signed an executive order in this regard.

State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that President Trump emphasized the need for foreign aid to benefit the American people. She added that Secretary of State Marco Rubio has paused all US foreign aid through the State Department and USAID for review.
Bruce stated, “He is starting a review of all foreign aid programs to ensure efficiency and alignment with US foreign policy under the America First agenda.”
She added that the secretary is proud to protect America’s investment with a deliberate and judicious review of how to spend foreign assistance dollars overseas.
The State Department spokesperson said, “The mandate from the American people is clear – we must prioritize national interests. The Department and USAID are committed to responsibly managing taxpayer funds.”

The implementation of Trump’s Executive Order in this regard and the secretary’s direction furthers that mission, she added.
Bruce reminded reporters of Rubio’s statement: “Every dollar spent must answer three questions.” “Is it safer, stronger, and more prosperous?” In 2023, USAID also provided nearly USD 45 billion in foreign aid. The aid was given to 158 countries. This included USD 400 million to Bangladesh, USD 231 million to Pakiso tan, and USD 1 billion to Afghanistan. It also provided USD 175 million to India, USD 118 million to Nepal, and USD 123 million to Sri Lanka.
