Sheikh Hasina pledges to return to Bangladesh; Yunus reacts.

Dhaka: Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, currently in exile in India. Labeled the country’s interim government chief, Muhammad Yunus, a “mobster” and accused him of inciting “terrorism” and “lawlessness.” In response, Dhaka reiterated its commitment to securing her extradition, emphasizing that bringing her back remains a top priority.

Ms. Hasina, who fled to India after her government was overthrown in a student-led uprising on August 5, 2024. Held a Zoom meeting on Monday with the widows of four policemen killed during last July’s protests. During the discussion, she expressed condolences and assured them of justice upon her return.

Sheikh Hasina Vows to Return and Seek Justice

“The killings were part of his meticulous conspiracy to remove me from power,” Sheikh Hasina said, vowing to return and avenge the deaths of the policemen.

Accusing Muhammad Yunus of dismantling all inquiry committees, she alleged that the interim government had “unleashed terrorists” to massacre people. “They are destroying Bangladesh,” she stated.

Ms. Hasina also claimed that she narrowly escaped an assassination attempt when opponents toppled her government. “By the grace of God, I survived to do something good,” she said.I will return and ensure justice for all of you,” she assured.

The four policemen were killed while she attempted to suppress student-led protests in July-August last year. What began as a demonstration against a controversial quota system soon turned into a movement demanding her removal.

S Hasina Accuses Muhammad Yunus of Conspiracy

In an emotional address, Sheikh Hasina claimed that nearly 450 police stations were set on fire as part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by Muhammad Yunus. She stated that Yunus has since admitted to a “design and conspiracy” to remove her from power.

“The killings were part of his meticulous conspiracy to throw me out of power,” she asserted.

Calling Yunus a “mobster,” the former premier vowed to bring him and others responsible to justice “on Bangla soil.”

“This illegitimate government must go, and the people must ensure it. Human rights violations under Yunus have been unprecedented. We have to make sure the people remove him from power,” she declared.
