PM Modi, Giorgia Meloni Visit Colosseum After Dinner In Rome

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Rome on Tuesday and received a warm welcome from Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Soon after his arrival, both leaders met over dinner and later visited the iconic Colosseum. Their meeting drew major attention after both leaders shared pictures on social media. Meloni posted a photo with PM Modi and wrote, “Welcome to Rome, my friend.” The picture showed the illuminated Colosseum in the background and quickly went viral. It gained over a million views on X and sparked fresh discussion around the popular “Melodi” friendship trend.

PM Modi also shared pictures from the dinner and Colosseum visit. He said Giorgia Meloni exchanged views on a wide range of subjects. He added that they would continue discussions on strengthening India-Italy friendship during formal talks. The visit comes during the final leg of PM Modi’s five-nation tour. Before reaching Italy, he visited Norway, the UAE, the Netherlands, and Sweden. In Rome, PM Modi will meet Italian President Sergio Mattarella and hold bilateral talks with Meloni. He will also attend other diplomatic engagements before returning to India.

The meeting has gained extra attention because of the friendly public equation between Modi and Meloni. Their social media exchanges have often gone viral in recent years. During the G7 Summit in June 2024, Meloni shared a selfie and video with PM Modi. In the video, she greeted viewers by saying, “Hello from the Melodi team.” PM Modi responded by saying, “Long live India-Italy friendship.” The term “Melodi” first became popular after their earlier bilateral meeting and later spread widely on social media.

The latest Rome meeting also reflects growing diplomatic engagement between India and Italy. Both countries have focused on expanding cooperation in trade, defence, technology, clean energy, and global issues. PM Modi’s visit is expected to push these discussions forward. His last Italy visit took place in June 2024 for the G7 Summit. This time, the Colosseum visit added a symbolic and personal touch to the diplomatic schedule. The viral pictures also helped project warmth between the two leaders while formal talks continued in Rome.
