India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025, after terrorists killed 26 people in the April 22 Pahalgam attack. On the mission’s first anniversary, senior defence officials called it the beginning of a tougher anti-terror strategy. They said India would continue taking firm action to protect its citizens and national security.
Former Director General of Military Operations Lt Gen Rajiv Ghai said the forces did not launch the mission merely to create “hungama” or chaos. Instead, the operation aimed to bring a major change in India’s response to terrorism. He also stated that India would defend its sovereignty with determination and professionalism whenever threats arise.
Operation Sindoor showed India’s resolve
Lt Gen Ghai described Operation Sindoor as a defining moment in India’s strategic journey. He explained that India moved beyond its earlier approaches and directly targeted terror camps across the Line of Control and inside Pakistan. According to him, the operation reflected India’s resolve, restraint and responsibility.
He revealed that the tri-services carried out nine precision strikes during the mission. The Indian Army executed seven strikes, while the Indian Air Force handled the remaining two. The forces planned every strike carefully and achieved complete surprise. They caused major damage to terror hubs in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. At the same time, the military avoided unnecessary collateral damage. The strikes also sent a strong warning that no safe haven for terror groups exists anymore.

Defence chiefs stress preparedness
Air Marshal AK Bharti said India launched Operation Sindoor to prevent tragedies like the Pahalgam attack from happening again. He stated that India believes in peace and coexistence. However, he warned that enemies should not mistake India’s patience for weakness. He added that the country would always respond with decisive and powerful action.
Vice Admiral AN Pramod said the Indian Navy pushed Pakistani naval and air assets into a defensive posture during the operation. He added that India’s precision strikes challenged Pakistan’s repeated nuclear threats. According to him, the mission displayed the armed forces’ growing confidence and operational strength.
The defence chiefs also praised the coordination between intelligence agencies, cyber units, government departments and the armed forces. They highlighted the strong performance of indigenous platforms such as INS Vikrant and advanced destroyers. The officials said these systems proved the success of India’s Atmanirbhar defence push. They also warned that India would respond with even greater force if future provocations occur.
