On Tuesday morning, the Israel Defense Forces declared that they had successfully reclaimed control of their previously violated border with the Gaza Strip.
This occurred roughly 72 hours after militants from Hamas broke through some of the barrier and conducted an assault that resulted in the kidnapping or murder of over 1,000 Israeli citizens.
Air force planes bombed large portions of the Strip as Israel struggled to comprehend the growing gravity of Saturday’s atrocities and the military publicly informed hostage families that their loved ones were being held in Gaza. Over 3,000 people have died in the ongoing fighting between Israel and Hamas. Over 1,000 people have died and 2,700 have been injured in Israel, and at least 900 people have died and 4,250 have been hurt in Gaza.

Israel claims
Israel also claims that Hamas and other militant groups in Gaza are holding over 150 hostages, including both soldiers and civilians.
Humanitarian organisations issued urgent pleas for the establishment of safe corridors to deliver essential aid into Gaza. They emphasized that overwhelmed hospitals were running critically low on supplies. Israel had previously halted the flow of food, fuel, and medicines into Gaza, and the last access point from Egypt ceased operation after airstrikes struck near the border crossing on Tuesday.
The number and identity of the kidnapped people have not been made publically known by Israeli authorities. However, according to military officials, the victims also include elderly people and children, the majority of whom were apprehended on Saturday morning from minor Israeli border villages.
According to early reports received by a senior Israeli military officer, Palestinian attackers may have kidnapped as least 150 Israelis. On Tuesday, President Biden announced that there are Americans among the captives that Hamas has abducted as part of their onslaught on Israel. “We now know that American citizens are among those being held by Hamas,” he stated. Investigators from France and a number of other nations are also looking into claims that one or more of their people may have been taken prisoner.
