Tehran: Iran is expected to deliver its response on Thursday to a United States proposal designed to reduce tensions in the Middle East, according to a regional source quoted by CNN. Diplomats from both countries have continued discussions through mediators as they attempt to end the ongoing conflict and create a path toward wider peace negotiations. Reports suggest that recent talks between Washington and Tehran have shown progress, with both sides moving closer to a possible preliminary agreement after weeks of deadlock.
According to an Axios report citing US officials and sources familiar with the negotiations, the latest diplomatic developments mark the most important breakthrough since the crisis began. Although negotiators have not reached a final agreement yet, officials believe the current discussions could help establish a framework for long-term talks. The proposed understanding reportedly includes an immediate ceasefire and a structured timeline for future negotiations aimed at preventing further escalation in the region.
At the centre of the negotiations is a reported one-page memorandum of understanding containing 14 key points. The proposal would introduce an immediate ceasefire followed by a 30-day negotiation period during which both nations would work on a broader settlement. Diplomats hope the arrangement will create enough stability to allow technical and political discussions to continue without military confrontation disrupting the process.

Iran-US Deal May Ease Tensions
Under the proposed terms, Iran would temporarily halt its uranium enrichment activities as part of confidence-building measures. In exchange, the United States would begin easing economic sanctions imposed on Tehran and release billions of dollars in frozen Iranian funds. Both sides would also take steps to lower tensions in strategic areas, including reducing restrictions and military pressure around the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil shipping route.
Officials involved in the talks have reportedly warned that many parts of the proposal still depend on further negotiations and formal approval from both governments. While diplomatic momentum has improved, uncertainty continues to surround the final outcome of the discussions. Experts believe the current efforts could either lead to a historic reduction in tensions or collapse and trigger another period of confrontation in the region.
The report further claims that US President Donald Trump recently decided to reduce certain military operations near the Strait of Hormuz in support of the diplomatic process. US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are reportedly leading the negotiations through direct contacts and third-party mediators. If both sides finalise the memorandum, officials may shift future technical discussions to either Islamabad or Geneva as part of broader peace efforts.
