Indian Woman, Shruti Chaturvedi Alleges Strip Search at US Airport

Indian entrepreneur Shruti Chaturvedi was held for eight hours at a US airport due to a suspicious power bank. She claimed a male officer physically checked her during the detention, which she found disturbing and inappropriate. Airport security found the power bank in her luggage and treated it as a possible security threat. Chaturvedi expressed concern over the handling of the situation and called the experience traumatic.

In an X post, Chaturvedi shared her worst experience at Anchorage airport, Alaska, this morning. She was stripped of warm clothes and made to wait in a cold room for hours. Chaturvedi was questioned by both the police and the FBI during the lengthy detention. She claimed she was denied a phone call while being held over a power bank in her handbag.

Chaturvedi, founder of India Action Project and Chaaipani, said she was not allowed to use the restroom.
She also missed her flight as her phone and wallet were taken away by airport officials. She expressed her frustration on social media about the treatment she received during the incident.

Chaturvedi wrote she was detained for eight hours and questioned by police and the FBI over a power bank. She claimed she was physically checked by a male officer on camera and stripped of her warm clothing. Her mobile phone and wallet were taken, and she was kept in a cold room without restroom access. She wasn’t allowed to make a single phone call and missed her flight due to the long detention. All this happened because airport security found her power bank in the handbag “suspicious,” she stated.

“I don’t have to imagine, already past the worst 7 hours. And we all know why,” Chaturvedi added, tagging the Ministry of External Affairs.

Shruti Chaturvedi’s case reflects the stricter US immigration policies under President Trump’s administration and recent policy changes.
