Board of Peace

Board of Peace: India invited, but staying on the sidelines for now.

India has received an invitation to join US President Donald Trump’s proposed “Board of Peace” but has not decided yet. Officials say New Delhi is closely watching how key global partners respond. India also fears the board could weaken the United Nations and create parallel global authority. No Indian representative attended the signing ceremony held in Davos, Switzerland. Apart from the US, no permanent UN Security Council member or G7 country has joined the board so far.

Board of Peace: Why India Has Stayed Away

Sources say India wants clarity on the board’s long-term role and leadership structure. Concerns remain over Trump retaining permanent control of the body. The board’s broad mandate and absence of Gaza from its charter have raised further doubts. India maintains that existing global institutions should lead conflict resolution.

India has stayed away from the Board of Peace because it wants clear answers about the body’s long-term role and decision-making process. Sources say New Delhi is concerned that Donald Trump may retain permanent control over the board, which could limit its independence. India has also raised questions about the board’s broad and unclear mandate, especially since the Gaza conflict does not figure in its charter. Moreover, India believes that established global institutions should continue to take the lead in resolving international conflicts rather than creating new, overlapping bodies.

Overall, India prefers a cautious and balanced approach. It does not want to commit to a platform whose structure, authority, and global acceptance remain uncertain. New Delhi continues to support multilateralism and believes lasting peace efforts must be inclusive, transparent, and led by credible international institutions.
