In the lead-up to the first Test of England’s tour of India, scheduled to commence in Hyderabad on Thursday, uncapped spinner Shoaib Bashir encountered complications with his visa. The 20-year-old, of Pakistani heritage, had to return home to address the visa-related issues, preventing his participation in the initial Test. Bashir, unable to join the squad traveling from a training camp in Abu Dhabi to India, garnered sympathy from England captain Ben Stokes. India captain Rohit Sharma expressed hope for a swift resolution to Bashir’s visa predicament.

UK Expresses Concerns Over Visa Issues for British Citizens with Pakistani Heritage in India
In response to the visa issues faced by cricketer Shoaib Bashir, a spokesperson stated that while they cannot comment on the specific case, the UK High Commission has previously raised similar concerns with India. The UK authorities emphasize the expectation that India treats British citizens, including those with Pakistani heritage, fairly in all visa processes. Issues concerning the experiences of British citizens with Pakistani heritage in visa applications have been previously discussed with the Indian High Commissioner in London, the spokesperson added. Shoaib Bashir, who made his debut for Somerset in a T20 match last year, encountered visa complications ahead of England’s tour of India.
