All About Cyclone Tej in Arabian Sea & Hamoon in Bay of Bengal

The Bay of Bengal and Arabian Sea have both turned into active basins for storm activities, which is an unusual situation. Twin cyclones will develop over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, according to weather experts. This phenomena was previously observed in 2018 when cyclones Luban and Titli formed over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, respectively.

A cyclone by the name of “Tej” is developing in the Arabian Sea, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), while “Hamoon,” which is still in its early stages, is in the Bay of Bengal.

Storm Tej

The IMD warned in a post on X (previously Twitter) on Sunday that cyclone Tej is anticipated to intensify.

According to the most recent weather agency advisory, Cyclone Tej was centered over the southwest Arabian Sea at 5.30 am Sunday after having moved west-northwestward at a pace of 18 kmph over the previous six hours.

“It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm during next 12 hours,” it stated.

According to IMD, Tej will eventually travel into Yemen’s neighboring south coast and Oman’s.

Hurricane Haroon

Cyclone “Hamoon,” which is developing in the Bay of Bengal, is now in an early stage and is approaching the coast of Andhra Pradesh.

A low-pressure region has formed over the southwest and adjacent southeast Bay of Bengal, according to the IMD unit in Amaravati on Friday. Around October 23, the depression is probably going to get worse and become a depression over the West Central Bay of Bengal.

By October 24, the system is most likely to develop into a cyclonic storm, predicts the for-profit forecasting service Skymet.

Impact of Cyclones On Indian Weather

The name ‘Tej’ as suggested by India, while Iran named ‘Hamoon’, based on the formula followed for naming cyclones in the Indian Ocean Region.

Both cyclones when formed, will be separated by a large distance, of over 2500 kilometers. Due to being far from each others reach, they will traverse their track, independently, according to Skynet forecast.

The cyclones are not expected to have any significant impact on the weather in India. Slight weather change is expected in Chennai and the coastal regions of Tamil Nadu, they move away.
