Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu have led to the declaration of holidays for schools and colleges in several districts on Thursday, December 12, 2024. Rains in districts including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukottai, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram, Vellore, Ranipet, Tirupattur, Karur, and Thoothukudi have announced a holiday for schools.

In Tiruvannamalai district, all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, will remain closed for the day. Meanwhile, in Tirunelveli, the holiday applies only to classes 1 to 5, as per the announcement by Collector K.P. Karthikeyan.

Authorities Issue Safety Advisory
Rainfall data recorded up to 5:30 a.m. today highlights the intensity of the showers across the state. Karaikal received the highest rainfall with 8 cm, followed by Adiramapattinam and Vriddhachalam at 7 cm each. Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Cuddalore, Poonamallee, and Red Hills recorded 6 cm each, while Nungambakkam in Chennai registered 5 cm of rainfall.

The continuous downpour has caused disruptions, prompting authorities to take precautionary measures to ensure public safety. Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors unless necessary and take precautions while traveling. Schools and colleges are expected to resume regular schedules once weather conditions improve.
