The India Meteorological Department (IMD) is forecasting temperatures to soar to 46 degrees Celsius in Delhi, accompanied by extreme heatwave, with the minimum temperature at 29.2 degrees Celsius. Expect the scorching weather to persist for the next four days, providing little relief from the blistering heat. The national capital has been grappling with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius for over a week, with Sunday reaching a maximum of 45.4 degrees Celsius, five degrees higher than the norm.

In the face of this relentless heatwave, Mungeshpur in Delhi recorded the highest temperature at a sweltering 48.3 degrees Celsius, followed closely by Najafgarh at 48.1 degrees Celsius, both surpassing normal temperatures by at least 8 degrees. The IMD has issued warnings of severe heatwave conditions persisting in parts of Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and West Uttar Pradesh for the next few days.
Tragically, the intense heatwave has already claimed lives, with two fatalities reported in Rajasthan. Phalodi, Rajasthan, recorded the highest temperature in the country at a scorching 49.8 degrees Celsius on Sunday, following a previous day’s peak of 50 degrees Celsius. The soaring temperatures highlight the urgent need for precautions and measures to mitigate the impact of the heatwave on vulnerable populations.
