School closures in Mumbai, Thane, Navi Mumbai, and Pune on August 21 amid heavy rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for isolated heavy rainfall across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.Officials have placed the Ghat areas of Pune under an orange alert due to intense rain predictions.The Lonavala Municipal Council has announced a school holiday for Thursday to ensure student safety.They instructed all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in the area to remain shut tomorrow.The council emphasized student safety as heavy rains continue disrupting travel and raising water levels locally.

IMD Issues Alerts; Lonavala Schools Closed Amid Rain Concerns

Although the alerts remain, the IMD has forecast reduced rainfall intensity across Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra.Some areas may still witness isolated heavy showers, particularly in North Madhya Maharashtra and Konkan regions.Officials continue advising citizens to stay alert as rain may disrupt travel and daily routines.

Local governments assure they are monitoring forecasts and will act swiftly if conditions worsen suddenly. With moderate rainfall likely over the next week, daily routines may resume cautiously in the region.The IMD emphasized scattered showers over many places but not enough to prompt region-wide closures. Authorities remain prepared for emergencies while encouraging schools to follow protocols for student and staff safety.
