Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector P Raja Babu assures support for the reconstruction of the Patha Yedla Lanka bridge, which was swept away during the recent floods in the village. MLA Simhadri Ramesh Babu discussed the issue with the Collector on Saturday, urging for the swift construction of the bridge. The floods severely impacted several villages in Avanigadda, Machilipatnam, and Pamarru, as well as parts of Panamaluru and Pedana constituencies.
The previous contractor has been asked to start work on 50,000 hectares of inundated fields in Krishna district villages. The surface layer of roads has been damaged, with an estimated cost of nearly ’90 crores. Crop damage will be assessed after water recedes, with most crops being 10-20 days old.
Patha Yedla Lanka bridge: Villagers Receive Aid
Speaking to TNIE, the Collector stated that they are taking all necessary steps to provide drinking water, commodities, and basic necessities to the Patha Yadla Lanka villagers by arranging a water boat until the flood waters recede. He believes that, while there has been no significant crop loss, officials will evaluate the measure once the water has receded from the fields.”In terms of health, we have deployed health department teams because there is a possibility of disease spread once the water recedes,” he added.
According to Joint Director Nagamanamma, 20 to 30 hectares of crop were submerged in Vatsavai mandal due to Budameru overflow. Cotton crops would be slightly harmed, but paddy and other crops would be unaffected. We have the seeds ready if any crop is damaged after we assess it, he added. Meanwhile, the roads in Vijayawada’s city and suburbs are crumbling, making driving a nightmare. With the constant rain, road accidents have become a common occurrence.
As per Joint Director Nagamanamma, Budameru overflow resulted in 20 to 30 hectares of crop submergence in Vatsavai mandal. While the cotton crops might suffer some damage, paddy and other crops remain unaffected. The authorities have prepared seeds to replace any damaged crops after a thorough assessment. On another note, the roads in Vijayawada’s city and suburban areas are deteriorating rapidly, leading to challenging driving conditions. The incessant rain has caused a surge in road accidents, becoming a regular concern for commuters.
