Mumbai Rains: Amitabh Bachchan’s Bungalow ‘Prateeksha’ Flooded

Mumbai heavy rains continue to severely impact the city, causing waterlogging in many low-lying areas. Authorities placed the city under red alert because intense rainfall persisted this week. The recent downpour affected prime areas, including megastar Amitabh Bachchan’s bungalow Prateeksha in Juhu. A video shared online shows rainwater entering the premises, flooding the house ankle-deep. Bachchan bought this iconic home as his first residence after his blockbuster film Sholay in 1975

Heavy rains disrupted flights, train services, and triggered massive traffic jams across major routes in Mumbai. The India Meteorological Department issued red alerts for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, and Ratnagiri districts. Officials expect the alert to remain until Wednesday morning due to continued heavy rainfall. Rain caused nearly half of Maharashtra’s districts to receive red or orange alerts. Citizens continue to face difficulties commuting and accessing flooded areas across the metro region.

Mumbai Rain:Amitabh Bachchan’s Prateeksha: A Home of Legacy and Memories

Amitabh Bachchan bought Prateeksha after Sholay’s success and moved there in 1976. He lived in the bungalow with his parents, Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan. Prateeksha witnessed important family milestones, including the births of Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan. The Bachchan family kept the house for 45 years before they shifted to Jalsa. Amitabh Bachchan later gifted Prateeksha to his daughter, Shweta, preserving the home’s legacy. The 10,125 sq. ft. property currently values at around Rs 50.63 crore. The Bachchans now reside in Jalsa, located just a kilometre away from Prateeksha. Abhishek and Aishwarya Bachchan held their wedding ceremony at Prateeksha in 2007. Amitabh revealed in his blog that his father named the house inspired by a poetic line.

Besides Prateeksha and Jalsa, Bachchan owns two more properties named Janak and Vatsa. Big B recently appeared in Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth, Rana Daggubati, and Fahadh Faasil. He currently hosts the seventeenth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati. He will next star in Section 84, directed by Ribhu Dasgupta. Bachchan is also set to reprise his role in the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD.
