IMD issued orange signal for Mumbai

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is forecast in various Maharashtra districts during the next two days.

The national weather service issued a “red” warning for Raigad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur, Sindhudurg, and Gadchiroli on Wednesday. In addition, heavy rain alerts (orange) have been issued for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Nashik, Yavatmal, and Chandrapur on Wednesday.

Five districts have been placed under a red alert for Thursday, 11 districts, including Mumbai, are under an orange alert, and 13 districts are under a yellow alert. No district is on a red alert on Friday.

Parts of Maharashtra have experienced heavy rainstorms during the past few days. A extremely severe rainstorm also hit Mumbai, causing major waterlogging, blocking roads, and disrupting transportation, including the local train, which is regarded as Mumbai’s lifeline. Extremely high rainfall activity is expected over the Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, coastal Karnataka, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. During the next two days, according to the IMD’s most recent meteorological bulletin.

During Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, north Haryana, Chandigarh, and West Uttar Pradesh, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated during the course of the next three days.

It is also likely that Vidarbha may have sporadic, extremely heavy rainfall through Thursday, July 27. The meteorological service stated that “isolated very heavy rainfall is also likely over Chhattisgarh during the 26th-28th July.”

‘Fairly widespread’ to ‘isolated heavy rainfall’ has also been expected by the IMD for Odisha through July 30. It has also been projected for sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim through July 28. It has also been predicted for Jharkhand and Bihar for July 29 and 30, 2023. On July 26, 2023, “Isolated very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha.”
