Himachal: Moderate-intensity earthquakes shake Lahaul and Spiti

Lahaul and Spiti district in Himachal Pradesh had two back-to-back moderate-intensity earthquakes, officials informed news agency PTI on Thursday.They claimed there were no reports of casualties or damage to property in any area of the district.

At 9.30 pm and 11.07 pm on Wednesday, the meteorological department reported two earthquakes with magnitudes of 3.2 and 3.1 at a depth of 10 kilometres.The tribal region of Lahaul and Spiti is located in Himachal seismic zone 4, which has a significant potential of harm.

According to the National Centre for Seismology, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 occurred in the Doda area of Jammu and Kashmir on July 10.At 5.38 am, the earthquake struck. Officials stated that there are no early reports of any damage.

The Doda region contained the epicentre, which was 10 km below the earth’s surface. The NCS reported that it happened near latitude 33.15 degrees north and longitude 75.68 degrees east.Twelve tremors of varying magnitude have rattled Doda June of this year, according to officials.

On June 13, a 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck the neighbourhood, damaging breaches in hundreds of structures, including homes.On July 10, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) announced that a second earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 had occurred 93 km southeast of Fayzabad, Afghanistan.

“Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 10-07-2023, 00:10:06 IST, Lat: 36.51 & Long: 71.29, Depth: 180 Km, Location: 93km SE of Fayzabad, Afghanistan,” stated a post on the official Twitter account of the NCS.

The earthquake struck 180 kilometres beneath the surface at 00:10:06 (IST). the epicentre of the earthquake was discovered to be at 36.51degN and 71.29degE, according to NCS. There were no known casualties.
