Flood Havoc in Nagpur: Homes Inundated, Rescue Ops Underway in Narasala

Nagpur was battered by heavy rains overnight and into Wednesday morning, leading to a crisis in several areas of the city as homes were flooded, roads became impassable, and rescue operations were launched. Early in the morning, a large tree fell near Alex Hospital, completely obstructing the road. However, emergency teams responded quickly and removed the tree, allowing traffic to resume by dawn.

Sakardara Zone Bears the Brunt as Floodwaters Inundate Homes and Streets

However, the worst-hit areas remain under Sakardara zone. In Somwaripeth (COTTON No. 02/67), water gushed into the residence of Nilesh Gawhane, following a severe drain choke. Civic workers have since launched dewatering operations but the situation remains tense as stagnant water continues to rise. In Mangaldip Nagar, visuals depict flooded streets and stranded locals, highlighting yet again the city’s fragile stormwater management infrastructure. Officials have urged residents in low-lying areas to remain indoors and steer clear of waterlogged roads. Emergency helplines are now active, and NMC’s disaster response teams are on standby at high alert.

Rescue Underway in Narasala Amid Flood Fears and Drainage Woes

Meanwhile, a dramatic rescue operation is underway in Narasala, near the cremation ground, where several people were reportedly trapped in rising floodwaters. The Nagpur Fire Department has deployed teams with rescue boats and safety gear, working relentlessly to bring people to safety. With the India Meteorological Department forecasting more rain, concerns are mounting over additional waterlogging and health risks from sewage overflow. Residents are demanding a permanent fix to chronic drainage issues before the city sees more lives and homes pushed to the brink.
