Cyclone ‘Michaung’ Weakens: Deep Depression Over Central Coastal Andhra Pradesh

According to the most recent update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclonic ‘Michaung’ has subsided into a Deep Depression over Central Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This Deep Depression is located roughly 50 km southeast of Khammam and 100 km north-northwest of Bapatla.

It is expected that the system would weaken further more, becoming a Depression over the following six hours and finally a well-defined low-pressure system over the next six hours, the Met agency said.

The strongest winds of the cyclonic storm were expected to hit Chennai and the surrounding parts of neighboring Tamil Nadu on Monday. The storm made landfall on Tuesday afternoon in the vicinity of Bapatla, between Nellore and Machilipatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Heavy rains in Tamil Nadu’s north, including Chennai, flooded highways and brought everything to a halt. In Chennai, rain-related mishaps resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals. On Tuesday, the airport reopened at 9am, but on Monday it was closed due to a submerged runway.

As the system moves further north, rainfall is anticipated in a number of states. On December 6, the weather forecasting organization predicts a few isolated areas of heavy rainfall over north coastal Andhra Pradesh.

“The situation is okay as of right now. The administration has taken the appropriate safety precautions to prevent any untoward incident because it has been predicted that the intensity of the deluge will rise over the next 24 hours, according to Koraput Collector Abdaal Akhtar.

Today, sporadic periods of heavy rainfall are predicted for Maharashtra’s Vidarbha area and Chhattisgarh.
