CM N. ChandrababuNaidu Visits Flood-Hit Vijayawada; Telangana Boosts Relief Efforts

Heavy rains have thrown life into disarray in Vijayawada, leading to power outages and significant traffic disruptions. The situation has prompted the Cyberabad Police to advise residents to work from home. On Monday, September 2, 2024, the Telangana government intensified its relief efforts after the downpour caused extensive damage, resulting in the death of at least nine people and submerging low-lying areas. Several affected individuals were evacuated to relief camps set up in various parts of the state.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is scheduled to hold a meeting with officials to review and enhance the ongoing rain relief operations.

In Andhra Pradesh, the situation remains grim as Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally visited the flood-affected regions in and around Vijayawada. Braving security concerns, he was on the ground until around 3 a.m., assessing the damage and coordinating relief efforts as the floodwaters from the Krishna River continued to wreak havoc for the third consecutive day.

Widespread Crop Damage as Government Intensifies Relief Efforts

The agricultural sector in Andhra Pradesh has been hit hard by the incessant rains, with crops spread across 1,11,259 hectares suffering damage. Additionally, horticulture crops over 7,360 hectares have also been affected. The state recorded over 28.5 cm of rainfall on Sunday, September 1, 2024, exacerbating the flood situation.

Chief Minister Naidu has emphasized that the state government is fully committed to aiding those affected by the floods. He assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to provide relief and support to those impacted by the natural disaster. The government’s priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of the residents while working towards restoring normalcy in the flood-hit areas.
