Floodwaters Recede as AP, Telangana Boost Relief Efforts

Torrential downpours in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have claimed 33 lives, with 16 fatalities in Telangana and 17 in Andhra Pradesh. The heavy rains have severely damaged roads, inundated rail tracks, and submerged thousands of acres of crops. However, floodwaters in several parts of both states began to recede as there was a break in the intense rainfall on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. Meanwhile, state governments have intensified relief efforts in the affected areas.

Andhra Pradesh experienced relentless rainfall over the past four days, affecting 4,15,171 people. Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan emphasized the need for special attention in Vijayawada, stating that 262 Panchayati Raj teams have been deployed for relief and rehabilitation. To address the crisis, the Andhra Pradesh Government has relocated 43,417 people to 163 relief camps across the state and established 197 medical camps to provide necessary assistance.

Flooding Hits Multiple Areas as Relief Efforts Intensify

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain alert for four districts in Telangana—Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, and Mahabubabad—on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. These areas may also experience thunderstorms with lightning and strong surface winds in isolated spots, further complicating the situation.

In Telangana, the heavy rainfall has caused flooding in several areas, including Miyapur and Alwal. In response, officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have begun efforts to clear water stagnation points to mitigate the impact of the floods. As both states continue to cope with the aftermath of the extreme weather, authorities are working around the clock to provide relief and ensure the safety of affected residents.
