At least 27 people lost their lives as heavy rain continued to pound Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for the second straight day on Sunday, leading to flooding, waterlogging in multiple areas, and causing major disruptions to road and rail traffic.
At least 27 people have lost their lives due to severe rain in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with 15 deaths in Telangana and 12 in Andhra Pradesh. Rivers in both states overflowed, prompting the evacuation of thousands by national and state disaster response forces to relief camps. The heavy rains have also caused significant disruptions to transportation, leading to the cancellation of over 100 trains and the diversion of several others on the South Central Railway network.

PM Modi Assures Support as Telangana Faces Red Alert
In response to the crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, assuring them of full support from the Centre. The weather department has issued a red alert for very heavy to extremely heavy rain in several districts of Telangana, including Adilabad, Nizamabad, and Mahabubnagar. Hyderabad has declared a holiday for schools on Monday due to waterlogging in many parts of the city. Chief Minister Reddy held an emergency review meeting, urging officials to remain vigilant and take swift action in flood-affected areas, while also advising residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.
In Andhra Pradesh, Vijayawada has been the hardest hit, with the Budameru rivulet overflowing and causing flooding in various city areas. Chief Minister Naidu made a second visit to the worst-affected Ajit Singh Nagar, where he distributed food packets to flood victims. Other districts, including Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, and Kakinada, are also expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday.
