Cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh: 1 Dead, 28 Missing

A cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh has resulted in one death and at least 28 people missing. Prompting a significant search and rescue effort by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), according to news agency ANI. The incident occurred late last night in the Samej Khad area of Rampur, Shimla district, leading to severe and sudden flooding. Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap reported that 19 individuals are currently unaccounted for. Rescue operations have been launched by the National Disaster Response Force, Indo-Tibetan Border Police, local police, and home guards, with drones also deployed to aid in locating the missing persons, Kashyap added.

Second Cloudburst in Mandi District

Another cloudburst struck Thaltukhod in the Padhar subdivision of Mandi district. According to Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan, one body has been recovered and nine people are missing. The severe flooding has caused significant damage to several homes.

Response Efforts and Central Support

The district administration and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams have been deployed to the affected areas. Union Home Minister Amit Shah has contacted Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to evaluate the situation following the cloudburst incidents. Shah assured Sukhu of central government support and the assistance of the NDRF.

BJP President Calls for Relief Efforts

Union Health Minister and BJP National President JP Nadda has urged all BJP members to assist in the rescue. And relief efforts for those affected by the cloudburst in his home state. In response to the significant losses and disruption caused by the cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh, Nadda spoke with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, promising central government support. Additionally, he contacted former Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Jairam Thakur, as well as the BJP State President, directing all BJP workers to participate in the relief efforts, according to a statement from the health minister’s office.
