The National Testing Agency (NTA) cancelled NEET UG 2026 after allegations of a ‘guess paper’ leak surfaced following the May 3 examination. The decision came after central agencies shared inputs suggesting the examination process may have been compromised. NTA stated that maintaining transparency and fairness was necessary to protect the credibility of India’s national testing system. The cancellation affected lakhs of medical aspirants across the country and created uncertainty among students and parents.

NEET UG 2026 Cancelled Over Paper Leak Allegations
The Government of India has now handed the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Officials will investigate how the alleged paper leak occurred and whether organised malpractice networks were involved. Reports from Rajasthan revealed that authorities detained more than 45 people during the initial investigation. Sources also suggested the leaked handwritten questions may have originated from a printing press, raising concerns over internal security lapses during the examination process.
NTA confirmed that authorities will conduct NEET UG 2026 again and announce fresh dates through official channels soon. The agency admitted that the re-exam would inconvenience students but stressed that continuing with a compromised examination would damage public trust further. Officials assured candidates that they would not need to complete fresh registration procedures for the upcoming examination.

Re-Exam Announced, No Fresh Registration Needed
The agency clarified that all existing application details and selected exam centres would remain valid for the re-exam. Students will not pay any additional examination fee, and authorities will refund previously paid fees. NTA will also issue fresh admit cards before the revised examination date. Officials advised candidates to follow only official updates and avoid misinformation spreading across social media platforms.
The cancellation has once again highlighted serious concerns regarding examination security in India. NEET remains one of the country’s most competitive entrance examinations, making fairness and transparency extremely important. By cancelling the examination and ordering a CBI investigation, authorities have signalled strict action against malpractice. Attention now shifts toward the re-examination process and the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
