Indonesia President’s ‘Indian DNA’ Remark Amuses Modi

New Delhi: During a dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday. Indonesia President Prabowo Subianto humorously claimed to have “Indian DNA,” drawing laughter from dignitaries, including Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the President herself.

Mr. Subianto shared his connection with India, saying, “A few weeks ago, I underwent genetic sequencing and was told I have Indian DNA. Everyone knows that when I hear Indian music. I can’t help but start dancing,” which left the room in fits of laughter.

Indonesia Deep Ties with India and Praise for PM Modi

“India and Indonesia have a long, ancient history together. We have civilizational links. Even now a very important part of our language comes from Sanskrit. Many names of Indonesia are actually Sanskrit names and in our daily life. The influence of ancient Indian civilization is very strong. I think it’s also part of our genetics,” the Indonesian President added.

Mr Subianto also lauded PM Modi’s leadership and commitment towards alleviating poverty and helping the marginalised while affirming that he learned a lot from him in the few days.

Indonesia Strengthens Bonds with India During President Subianto’s Visit

Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto expressed his pride in visiting India, emphasizing his heartfelt approach to diplomacy. “I am not a professional politician or a skilled diplomat; I speak from the heart,” he said. Praising Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, he highlighted Modi’s dedication to alleviating poverty, uplifting marginalized communities, and supporting the weakest sections of society, calling it an inspiration.

President Subianto extended his wishes for India’s prosperity, peace, and greatness while expressing hope for continued close ties and friendship between Indonesia and India.

As the Chief Guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations, Mr. Subianto was joined by a high-level delegation, including Indonesian ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. The event also featured a performance by Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta, a 190-member ensemble band from Indonesia’s Military Academy, showcasing military discipline and tradition.

During his three-day visit, India and Indonesia signed and renewed five Memorandums of Understanding across various sectors, including health, traditional medicine, and maritime security, further strengthening bilateral relations.
