Mekedatu Issue and TVK Government’s Political Shift

Meanwhile, the Mekedatu Dam Project may remain a major issue during Vijay’s Delhi meetings. He recently wrote to Prime Minister Modi and urged the Union Jal Shakti Ministry and the Central Water Commission to reject the project’s Detailed Project Report. Tamil Nadu continues to oppose the project because of concerns over Cauvery water sharing.

Additionally, Vijay will take part in cultural events during the visit. He will inaugurate a statue of Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar at Jawaharlal Nehru University. The visit comes weeks after Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam secured a major victory in the Assembly elections. TVK won 108 seats before forming the government with support from Congress, Left parties, VCK, and IUML.

Furthermore, the government launched a dedicated Artificial Intelligence department. This move made Tamil Nadu the second Indian state after Kerala to create a separate AI portfolio. Officials believe the department will improve digital governance and encourage technological innovation.
