Teaser Draws From The Story Of Samudra Manthan
Khanna reportedly accepted the role because he found Shukracharya’s character complex and different from conventional villains. According to a source associated with the film, the actor remains selective about his projects and carefully studies the characters before accepting them. Hindu mythology describes Shukracharya as the respected teacher and guide of the Asuras. He advised them during their battles with the Devas and possessed the ability to revive dead Asuras. His character therefore plays an important role in the conflict between the two sides. Maha Kali, meanwhile, represents the force that destroys the demonic army. This places Shukracharya and Kali on opposite sides of the central conflict. Khanna reportedly liked the layered nature of Shukracharya because the character does not simply represent evil. Instead, Indian scriptures portray him as a knowledgeable sage whose motivations and actions have often received different interpretations.
The makers filmed Mahakali over an extensive schedule between February and April. The production team also filmed several scenes in Kolkata as part of the project. Khanna will appear in a mythological superhero action film for the first time, making the project a major departure from some of his recent work. His portrayal of Shukracharya has already generated curiosity among viewers because the character combines mythology, wisdom and conflict. Khanna has gained renewed attention after the success of films such as Dhurandhar and Chhaava. Instead of choosing another conventional commercial role, he opted for a character that gives him room to explore a more complicated personality. The makers have positioned Shukracharya as an important figure in the story, making Khanna’s performance an important part of the film’s appeal.
Mahakali Set For January 2027 Release
Mahakali represents the latest project in director Prasanth Varma’s cinematic universe, which began with Hanu-Man. The new film places Bhoomi Shetty at the centre of the story as the titular Maha Kali. The makers have presented the project as a female-led superhero film that combines Indian mythology with action and fantasy elements. The story appears to revolve around the long-running conflict between the Devas and Asuras, with Maha Kali playing a central role in the battle. Khanna’s Shukracharya adds another important dimension to the narrative because his character represents the Asura side while also carrying the image of a learned sage. The first glimpse has introduced audiences to the film’s world without revealing the entire story. Viewers now await more details about the characters, action and larger connection with the cinematic universe.
The makers have scheduled Mahakali for a theatrical release on January 8, 2027. Bhoomi Shetty will lead the film as Maha Kali, while Akshaye Khanna will portray Shukracharya. The release of the first video has already generated discussion around Khanna’s unusual casting and his decision to take on a mythological role after the success of Dhurandhar. His choice allows him to explore a character that combines intelligence, mythology and moral complexity. The film will also expand Prasanth Varma’s cinematic universe following Hanu-Man. With its female-led superhero narrative, mythological setting and large-scale action, Mahakali aims to offer a different kind of Indian superhero story. The audience will get to see how Khanna interprets Shukracharya and how his character confronts Maha Kali when the film reaches cinemas in January 2027.
