WhatsApp is likely to add a dedicated Suggested Chat section in app

WhatsApp is expected to introduce a fresh “Suggested Chat” segment in the app, as per reports. This upcoming feature has been observed in the recent Android 2.24.7.23 beta update, aimed at streamlining connections within the app. Positioned at the bottom of the chats list, this segment will suggest contacts from users’ address books with whom they haven’t interacted before or those recently added to Contacts. By seamlessly integrating into the existing interface, WhatsApp aims to assist users in discovering new communication channels without interrupting their current chat arrangement.

WaBetaInfo spotted the feature and reported the option is visible to both existing users and newcomers who might have just started using the messaging app. For those already on the platform, the feature aims to offer users an opportunity to broaden their social networks by initiating conversations with suggested contacts.

“Suggested Chat” Feature and International Payments via UPI

The report mentions that users will get control over their messaging experience, with the ability to dismiss the “Suggested Chat” section at any time. Hence, people who are not comfortable with the feature will be able to disable it from WhatsApp. While still in development, the feature is tipped to roll out in a future update of the app.

Besides, tipster AssembleDebug recently claimed on X (previously Twitter) that WhatsApp is developing a new feature that will let users in India conduct international payments via the app. This will be made possible with the help of Unified Payments Interface (UPI) which is already a part of the app.

“WhatsApp’s ‘International Payments’ Feature

According to the tipster, the upcoming feature will be named “International Payments,” allowing Indian bank account holders to transfer funds overseas. Nevertheless, the functionality will only be accessible in countries where banks have activated international UPI services.

According to leaked screenshots shared by the tipster, it appears that users will be required to manually enable the international payments feature. Furthermore, users might be asked to specify the timeframe during which they plan to utilize this feature. The source suggests that WhatsApp could provide a duration of up to three months for this feature, which differs from Google Pay’s seven-day transaction window. However, further details regarding this feature remain undisclosed at present.
