Tesla introduced its third-generation humanoid robot at the Appliance & Electronics World Expo 2026 in Shanghai. The company displayed the new machine during the opening of the global electronics exhibition. The presentation attracted strong attention from visitors and industry experts.
Tesla plans to begin mass production of this humanoid robot by the end of 2026. Company representatives confirmed that the robot shown at the expo represents the first production-ready version. Engineers may still refine the design before the final launch. However, the core structure and capabilities remain close to the showcased prototype.

Reports suggest that Tesla wants to produce the robot at a very large scale. The company has set a long-term goal to manufacture about one million units every year. This target shows the firm’s ambition to lead the humanoid robotics market. The company believes robots will play a major role in future industries.
Along with the robot, it also displayed several other technologies at the event. Visitors saw the company’s electric pickup, the Tesla Cybertruck, at the exhibition booth. The appearance marked a rare presence for Tesla at a major Chinese technology show in recent years.
Tesla Focuses on Advanced Robotics
Earlier, Tesla shared teaser images of the robot on the Chinese platform Weibo. These images highlighted the machine’s advanced mechanical hands. Engineers designed these hands to perform delicate and complex tasks. The design allows the robot to mimic human movements more accurately.
The company redesigned the entire robot from the ground up. According to Tesla, the machine can learn new actions by watching human behavior. This ability could help the robot perform tasks in factories, warehouses, and service industries.
Elon Musk previously spoke about the project during a company earnings call. He explained that Tesla plans to introduce the Optimus V3 humanoid robot soon. The company expects this version to mark a major step in robotics development.
Musk also mentioned that Tesla might adjust its vehicle production strategy to focus more on robotics. In earlier statements, he suggested that the company could reduce output of models like the Tesla Model S and the Tesla Model X. This shift could free factory space for robot manufacturing.
At present, Tesla already uses robots for basic tasks inside its factories. These machines assist workers in handling repetitive work. Musk believes the robots will perform much more advanced operations by the end of 2026.
Industry observers say it may eventually sell these humanoid robots to consumers. Musk earlier indicated that public sales could start around 2027.
China plays a crucial role in this strategy. The country leads the world in manufacturing and artificial intelligence development. Because of this, Tesla expects strong competition from Chinese companies in robotics. However, the company hopes its robots will become as popular in China as its electric vehicles.
