India’s largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has reportedly connected employee salary hikes and promotions with its return-to-office policy. According to reports, the company now expects employees to regularly work from the office to remain eligible for appraisal benefits. This move signals a stronger push by the company to end extended remote working practices.
The company has also linked variable pay with adherence to the return-to-office rule. Employees who follow the new policy and meet performance expectations will become eligible for incentives and promotions. The rule will also apply to freshers who have completed their training programs and qualify for salary increases beyond the standard annual package of about Rs 3 lakh.
Salary hikes and promotions now linked to office attendance
Reports indicate that TCS has asked employees to work from the office for all five working days of the week. With this directive, the company aims to strengthen collaboration and productivity within teams. The decision also reflects the broader shift in the IT industry toward resuming regular office operations.
The company has instructed employees to report to their designated office locations instead of choosing workplaces closer to their homes. Some employees have reportedly shown willingness to give up city allowances in exchange for greater flexibility. However, the HR department may allow limited work-from-home options in certain cases.
Meanwhile, other major IT firms have also taken similar steps. Companies like Infosys and Wipro have introduced policies that require employees to return to the office. Wipro, for example, has implemented a hybrid model that requires employees to work from the office for at least three days each week, indicating a gradual end to the remote work era.
