Saudi Arabia and Qatar have approved a landmark agreement to launch a high-speed electric railway linking their capitals, Riyadh Doha, signaling stronger regional cooperation and rising investment in modern Gulf transport infrastructure. Riyadh Doha High-Speed Rail Project Details

The 785-km line will connect Riyadh and Doha through key hubs like Al-Hofuf and Dammam. Trains will exceed 300 km/h and cut travel time to about two hours. The route will also link King Salman International Airport and Hamad International Airport, improving passenger convenience. The pact was signed in the presence of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Transport ministers Saleh Al‑Jasser and Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Thani formalized the deal, according to Saudi Press Agency. Improved rail connectivity often attracts foreign investment, and policymakers expect similar results once operations begin.

Moreover, planners suggest the project could inspire additional high-speed routes across neighboring nations, gradually forming an integrated rail network that supports tourism, reduces road congestion, and offers travelers a reliable alternative to short-haul flights.

Officials estimate the project could add about 115 billion riyals to both economies. It may serve over ten million passengers yearly and create more than 30,000 jobs. Authorities expect tourism and trade to grow as travel becomes faster and easier between the two nations. Construction should finish within six years using advanced rail technology and sustainability standards. Leaders say the line will reduce emissions and support smart mobility goals.
