Meerut Rapid Train Crosses 1 Lakh Riders on Day One

Meerut Crowd thronged the spacious concourse from early morning as families and youngsters arrived to experience the new service. Many passengers clicked selfies and captured photos inside the train and across the station parisar, creating a celebratory atmosphere.

Commuters filled the coaches of the Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) on its first full day of operations. Slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” echoed through the train as the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) recorded its highest-ever ridership, crossing the one lakh mark.

The surge came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the complete 82-km Delhi–Meerut corridor along with the new Meerut Metro link. Monday marked the first full day of commercial services on the entire stretch.

Meerut Sees Record Rush on Namo Bharat’s First Full Day

NCRTC officials stated that with the last train scheduled at 10 pm, the total ridership comfortably surpassed one lakh commuters. The corporation confirmed that this was the highest single-day footfall recorded on the corridor so far.

Visuals from Begumpul station in Meerut showed enthusiastic passengers eager to board the rapid train. People gathered in large numbers, while several commuters welcomed the train by showering flower petals and waving as it arrived at the platform.

Authorities maintained smooth operations by ensuring orderly queues at ticket counters and entry gates. Station staff actively assisted first-time riders and guided them about safety protocols to manage the heavy rush efficiently.

Designed to run at speeds of up to 180 kmph, the Namo Bharat system aims to cut travel time between Delhi and key cities such as Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Modinagar and Meerut, offering a faster and more efficient regional commute.

The launch has significantly boosted regional connectivity and public confidence in high-speed transit infrastructure. With strong public turnout on day one, officials expect ridership numbers to remain high in the coming weeks as more daily commuters shift to the faster and more reliable Namo Bharat service.
