India family in AI video appears totally normal – until you look closer

An AI model created a birthday video of an Indian family that looks surprisingly real at first glance, but a closer look reveals several flaws. In the clip, a woman places a cake on a dining table cluttered with water bottles and utensils. Children gather around and start clapping, while a man appears to blow out the candles on the cake. Although the scene closely mirrors a typical birthday celebration in a middle-class Indian household, artificial intelligence generated the entire video.

AI’s New Look: From Glossy to Gritty, Realism Reaches a New Level

Justine Moore, a partner at the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, shared the video to highlight how far generative AI has advanced in just two years. AI has shed its signature glossy, cinematic look—the kind that instantly reveals its artificial nature. Instead, this clip of an AI-generated Indian family shows just how convincingly realistic AI videos can now appear. In the coming months, telling AI videos apart from real ones will become increasingly difficult. “This is not a real home video,” Moore wrote on X while posting the eerily authentic-looking clip. “We can now generate AI videos that look like they were filmed on a sh**ty old camcorder or an outdated phone.”

AI-Generated ‘Home Video’ Style Stuns Viewers with Realism, Sparks Reactions Online

“We’re no longer limited to crisp, cinematic outputs AI is about to unleash a wave of diverse video styles,” she predicted. Moore explained that the video was created using For AI’s new model, which combines Flux Pro with Seedance. “It uses the prompt ‘aggressively mediocre home video’ to produce this kind of result,” she said. Viewers widely agreed that the video looked surprisingly realistic and could easily fool the casual observer. “This is more Indian than being Indian. We are cooked,” one person commented. “Very impressive. AI video just keeps getting better,” another added.
