The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event on January 17 is set to highlight significant advancements in generative AI capabilities for smartphones. While the expected S24 phones will feature upgraded hardware like high-resolution cameras and vibrant displays, this year’s primary emphasis appears to be on Samsung’s new AI initiatives and software enhancements.
Samsung introduced AI in their Mobile phones
Samsung’s recently unveiled Galaxy AI promises a “comprehensive mobile AI experience” for devices. While specific details are limited, it is expected to power communication, productivity, and creativity features upon its early 2024 launch.

The timing strongly suggests that it will debut with the S24 series, offering an AI enhancement not present in previous Galaxy phone models. Samsung has given a glimpse of one AI feature called AI Live Translate Call, designed to deliver real-time audio and text translations during phone calls conducted through Samsung’s native calling app. Notably, the on-device processing ensures private translations, differentiating it from cloud-based solutions.
While AI Live Translate Call focuses on privacy, some AI features may rely on the cloud. However, processing certain tasks locally when possible aligns with Samsung’s stated privacy goals. AI seems reminiscent of Bixby, Samsung’s 6-year-old digital assistant, but likely takes capabilities up a notch. Bixby will likely continue managing Samsung’s connected home devices, while Galaxy AI becomes the AI face of phones.
