Yuvraj Singh Explains How MS Dhoni Became Captain

Yuvraj Singh has shared his disappointment over Sunrisers Hyderabad choosing Ishan Kishan as captain instead of Abhishek Sharma in the absence of Pat Cummins. Abhishek Sharma has spent many years with Sunrisers Hyderabad and built a strong connection with both the franchise and its fans. Because of this, many supporters believed the team would reward his loyalty and performances with the captaincy role.

At the same time, Yuvraj Singh made it clear that he respects Ishan Kishan and his growth in Indian cricket. He said that Ishan has developed into a dependable player and has shown leadership qualities in domestic cricket as well.

However, Yuvraj stressed that such decisions can affect a player’s mindset. He explained that when teams ignore experienced players for leadership roles, those players may feel hurt. Still, he advised Abhishek to use that disappointment as motivation and continue performing strongly for the team.

Yuvraj Reacts To SRH Captaincy Decision

With Pat Cummins unavailable for the start of IPL 2026, Sunrisers Hyderabad handed the captaincy to Ishan Kishan. However, many fans and experts expected Abhishek Sharma to lead the side because he has spent several years with the franchise and developed into one of its key players.

Yuvraj Singh admitted that he felt disappointed by the decision because Abhishek has contributed a lot to the franchise over the years. He said that players often expect recognition after giving their best to a team for a long time.

Yuvraj also pointed out that Abhishek joined the Indian team before the World Cup, performed well for his state side, scored a century, and continued his good form at the international level. Therefore, he believed Abhishek deserved an opportunity to lead the team.

At the same time, Yuvraj said that Abhishek shares a good bond with Ishan Kishan, which could help him deal with the disappointment and continue supporting the team.

However, selectors surprisingly appointed MS Dhoni as captain. Yuvraj said that although the decision looked unexpected at first, Dhoni eventually proved himself and achieved great success for India.

According to him, the IPL offers the perfect stage for young cricketers to develop leadership skills.
