Jaiswal’s Remarkable Performance in India’s Series Victory
Yashasvi Jaiswal emerged as India’s standout player in their 4-1 series triumph over England, amassing over 700 runs. Making an exceptional start to his Test career last August with a debut century, Jaiswal became only the second Indian batsman, after Sunil Gavaskar, to score 700 runs or more in a single Test series. Gavaskar achieved this feat twice against the West Indies in 1971 and 1978/79, but it took another 45 years for a player to join him in the club – a remarkable achievement for the 22-year-old who has yet to play even 10 Test matches.

Gavaskar’s Influence on Jaiswal’s Remarkable Achievement
During India’s tour of South Africa, Sunil Gavaskar, the first batter to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, played a crucial role in Yashasvi Jaiswal’s remarkable achievement. Recognizing the importance of capitalizing on promising starts, Gavaskar intervened during the Johannesburg Test, advising Jaiswal in the hotel room. This intervention proved pivotal as Jaiswal has since been unstoppable in Test matches.
