In a gripping encounter, West Indies managed to secure a remarkable two-wicket triumph against India in their second Twenty20 international match on Sunday. After a promising start at 126-4, their chase of a 153-run target took an unexpected turn as they stumbled to 129-8. The turning point came when Mukesh Kumar took down top-scorer Nicholas Pooran, who had contributed a commendable 67 runs off 40 balls.
At a crucial juncture, West Indies found themselves with just four overs remaining, along with a mere two wickets in hand and 24 runs to achieve. Akeal Hosein (16 not out) and Alzarri Joseph (10 not out) emerged as the heroes, forming an unbroken partnership of 26 runs. Their resilience guided West Indies to a total of 155-8 in 18.5 overs, sealing the victory in a nail-biting finish.
Hardik Pandya, India’s most successful bowler, finished with 3-35 in four overs.The win gives the West Indies a 2-0 lead in the five-match series. That puts them one win away from clinching the series before it heads to the United States for the final two games.India had previously won the toss and scored 152-7.
Tilak Varma led India with a 41-ball 51. He added 42 runs for the third wicket with Ishan Kishan (27) and 38 runs for the fifth wicket with Hardik, who scored 24 in 18 before being bowled by Joseph.
Also, Hosein (2-29), Joseph (2-28), and Romario Shepherd (2-28) did the majority of the damage for the hosts.
The teams will remain in Providence, Guyana, for the third T20 on Tuesday, before travelling to Lauderhill, Florida, for the final two matches on Aug. 12 and 13.
West Indies won the first game by four runs and kept the same team. India made one change, with Ravi Bishnoi replacing the injured Kuldeep Yadav.
