IND cap memorable tournament with trophy win

Shami’s family, along with many other players’ families, attended the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium as India capped off their impressive tournament with a victory, lifting their first ODI trophy since 2013 by defeating New Zealand by 4 wickets.

In the first innings, Shami, though slightly expensive, took the crucial wicket of a well-set Daryl Mitchell before the dangerous Kiwi batter could inflict further damage. Kohli had a quiet evening in the final, facing just two deliveries and scoring one run before Michael Bracewell trapped him LBW.

Despite this, both players delivered memorable campaigns. Kohli shined with a century against Pakistan and a crucial 84 against Australia in the semifinals. Shami started strong with a five-wicket haul against Bangladesh and shouldered the responsibility of being India’s sole frontline seamer after Varun Chakravarthy’s inclusion.

Returning from a long-term injury, Shami led India’s pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, proving his value as an experienced leader of this powerhouse Indian bowling unit.
