Team India hit with fresh injury blow, star pacer set to miss Asian Games

Injuries continue to plague the Indian cricket team as news of Shivam Mavi’s absence from the forthcoming Asian Games has surfaced. According to a source in The Indian Express, Mavi suffered the injury a few days ago and would probably be replaced in the team that flies to Hangzhou, China, by Umran Malik.

Mavi’s injury has not yet been fully determined.

Before departing for the continental competition, which will take place from September 23 to October 8, the team will congregate in Bangalore for a brief camp.

Yash Thakur, who was kept as one of the standby players, was the player that the selectors first wanted to replace the injured bowler, according to the report, even though there has been no official word on the matter. However, Thakur too has a wound, which inserts Umran into the story.

Due to the rigorous guidelines established for the Indian contingent at the Asian Games village, no reserve player will travel with the team.

The team, whose members will meet in Bengaluru for a two-week camp under the supervision of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), was already announced before. Along with Sariaj Bahutule as the bowling coach and Munish Bali as the fielding coach, VVS Laxman will be the team’s head coach while on the road. Ruturaj Gaikwad will serve as the unit’s commander.

The Asian Games will feature a reserve team because they coincide with the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India.

Asian Games: Alteration to the selection committee

The study also indicated that the senior selection committee will change moving forward. Salil Ankola, a former India pacer who now a West Zone selector, would be directed to leave.

The management believed they couldn’t have two selectors from a single zone, according to the article. Ajit Agarkar, a former Indian pacer, had been named by BCCI as the new chairman of the selection committee. Ankola’s one-year stint as senior selector will soon come to an end, and BCCI is considering not renewing his contract because both he and Agarkar are from the West Zone.

Every member of the selection committee was given a one-year contract by the BCCI, and they will all need to reapply in December of this year. Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, S Sharath, and Ankola presently make up the committee.
