In a historic twist, both Indian table tennis teams, despite heartbreaking pre-quarterfinal losses at the World Championships, have secured their spots in the Paris Olympics! Their stellar world ranking placed them in the final qualifying position, marking the first time India will compete in the Olympic team event since its inception in 2008.
“The men’s and women’s teams showcase outstanding performance, and we take pride in their achievements. We eagerly await the official announcement confirming our qualification for the Paris Olympics, schedule to be reveal on the 5th of March,” stated Kamlesh Mehta, General Secretary of the Table Tennis Federation of India.

In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Indian men’s table tennis team, led by the 10-time national champion Sharath Kamal, faced a formidable challenge against hosts Korea, succumbing 3-0. On the women’s front, despite a valiant effort, the team fell 1-3 to the higher-ranked Chinese Taipei, featuring prominent players such as World No.10 Cheng I-Ching and World No.41 Szu-Yu Chen.
The Table Tennis Federation of India eagerly anticipates official confirmation of their Olympic qualification, with the announcement slated for March 5th. Expressing his excitement, Gnanasekaran Sathiyan, a key player in the Indian men’s team, hailed the achievement as historic, emphasizing the collective effort of players, coaches, support staff, the federation, and SAI.
