He smashed an unbeaten 73 off 44 balls, filled with powerful lofts and late flicks, and forged a crucial 57-run partnership with Naman Dhir in the final two overs a phase that produced a staggering 48 runs.

“It was important for one batter to stay till the end,” he said. “We knew there would be an over worth 15–20 runs, so we just had to wait for it.
