Shubman Gill, Mohammed Siraj Make History In ICC Rankings

Shubman Gill from India has claimed the top spot in the ICC ODI Rankings for men as the number one batsman, displacing Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj holds the highest ranking among bowlers.

Shubman Gill’s outstanding performance in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 has propelled him to the number one position in the ICC ODI Rankings for men as a top batter. Meanwhile, his teammate Mohammed Siraj has claimed the top spot in the ODI Rankings for bowlers. Gill dethroned Pakistan’s Babar Azam to secure the top position.

Shubman Gill is now the fourth Indian player in history

Notably, Gill is now the fourth Indian player in history to hold the No. 1 ODI batting position, joining the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli. Siraj’s exceptional recent performances for India in the World Cup have elevated him to the highest position among bowlers in the rankings.

The right-hander has scored 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa, amassing 219 runs from six innings at the event so far in the ongoing tournament.

Pakistan skipper has amassed 282 runs from eight knocks in the World Cup, falling six rating points behind Gill into second place as his more than two-year reign as the world’s top ODI batter came to an end.

In the meantime, ex-captain Virat Kohli secured the fourth position in the rankings. Gill, in his relatively short yet remarkable career, clinched the top spot for the first time, while Kohli advanced three positions to the fourth spot. He is now just one rating point away from third-placed South African opener Quinton de Kock, all thanks to his impressive performance and 543 runs in the World Cup.

Notably, India batter Shreyas Iyer leaps 17 ranks to 18th overall on the list of ODI batters, with Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman raised up three slots to 11th and Afghanistan counterpart Ibrahim Zadran moved up six spots to 12th also making inroads.
