Ruturaj Reacts as Dhoni Returns as CSK Captain in IPL 2025

A hairline fracture in his elbow, sustained during the clash against Rajasthan Royals, dashed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s aspirations of leading Chennai Super Kings through a rough patch, ruling him out of the rest of IPL 2025 on Thursday. The injury dealt a significant blow to CSK, who were already on a four-match losing streak, especially since Gaikwad had consistently performed in a batting lineup that has struggled to chase targets this season.

Gaikwad Ruled Out, Dhoni Returns as CSK Look to Revive IPL 2025 Campaign

Head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed Gaikwad’s unavailability in the pre-match press conference ahead of their clash with Kolkata Knight Riders at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. With Gaikwad sidelined, all eyes now turn to MS Dhoni, who will reassume captaincy duties for the first time since leading CSK to a memorable IPL 2023 title.

The 28-year-old Gaikwad took to CSK’s social media to express his disappointment and gratitude. “I am really gutted to miss the rest of the IPL due to an unfortunate elbow injury. I want to thank everyone for your support so far, it truly means a lot,” he said in a heartfelt video message.

CSK’s campaign has veered off course since their opening win against Mumbai Indians. Now languishing in ninth place on the points table with just two points and a negative net run rate of -0.889, they desperately needed the stability and runs Gaikwad offers at the top.

In his absence, Gaikwad is placing his faith in Dhoni – CSK’s beloved talisman – and on a light-hearted note, labelled him the “young wicketkeeper” who will lead the side.

Ruturaj Gaikwad acknowledged the challenges of CSK’s season but expressed optimism with MS Dhoni taking over as captain, playfully referring to him as a “young wicketkeeper.” Despite his injury, Gaikwad pledged support from the sidelines and hoped for a strong finish.
