RR’s Mysterious Collapse vs RCB Leaves Legends Stunned: “Lightning Strikes Thrice”

Hazlewood (4/33) came on to bowl with 18 runs needed off 12 balls and flipped the game by taking two wickets in two deliveries while giving away just one run. RR followed the same script earlier first against Delhi Capitals, then against Lucknow Super Giants, and once again against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

“RR Butchered the Chase”: Katich, Mbangwa Left Baffled by Royals’ Stunning Collapse

Former Australia batter Simon Katich criticised RR for butchering the chase after Shubham Dubey, their last recognised batter, fell on the first ball of the 20th over with 17 runs still needed. “RR is butchering the chase,” Katich said on commentary. Former Zimbabwe cricketer Pommie Mbangwa, sharing the commentary box with Katich, echoed the sentiment. He said no one would believe that lightning could strike thrice, but RR proved otherwise, and only they could explain the reasons behind their defeat.

“Lightning Strikes Thrice”: RR’s Playoff Hopes Crushed After Another Dramatic Collapse

“Lightning strikes thrice. They were on their way to victory but somehow ended up losing. They can only explain it to themselves. They couldn’t exorcise the ghosts of the last two games,” said Mbangwa. The defeat knocked RR out of contention for a playoff spot in this year’s league, with the team now having lost seven of their nine matches. With RR needing 18 off the final 12 balls, Hazlewood (4/33) stepped up and turned the game around.
