India captain Rohit Sharma dismissed retirement rumors after leading the team to its third Champions Trophy title on Sunday, March 9. As speculation about his future gained momentum following the global tournament, Rohit firmly stated that he has no plans to retire from this format after the Champions Trophy 2025.

Meanwhile, the Indian skipper has shared his future plans and addressed the possibility of making a final attempt at the ODI World Cup in 2027. When asked about playing in the tournament two-and-a-half years from now, he said, “It’s very hard to say that right now.”
Rohit, who will turn 38 next month, stated that he is keeping his options open but is not focusing too far ahead on 2027. He emphasized that he wants to assess his performance before making any decisions. “I’m keeping all my options open. I want to see how well I’m playing. Right now, I’m playing really well and enjoying everything I’m doing with this team. The team is also enjoying my company, which is nice. I can’t say anything about 2027 because it’s too far, but I’m keeping all my options open,” he said.

He confirmed that he will remain part of the team as long as he continues to perform well and the team needs him. “As long as I enjoy the sport and my role in the team, I will continue to play,” he said.
Expressing his love for the game, he added, “Playing cricket makes me truly happy. There’s a lot of pride involved, and seeing how this team is performing, I don’t want to leave.”
Rohit became the second Indian captain, after MS Dhoni, to lead the Men in Blue to two ICC titles. He led the team to victory in the T20 World Cup 2024 and then guided them to their first ODI title in 12 years by winning the Champions Trophy.
