Rohit Sharma fixed his shoulder on-field, earning praise

India captain Rohit Sharma has faced criticism over his form and fitness in recent years, sparking a nationwide debate during the Champions Trophy in the UAE this month. However, the 37-year-old silenced his critics with a brilliant 76 in the final, leading India to victory over New Zealand and securing their second ICC title in nine months under his leadership.

Rohit’s sharp on-field awareness goes beyond his captaincy skills, even helping him manage serious physical conditions. Australian musculoskeletal physiotherapist Jared Powell, who holds a PhD in shoulder pain research, recently praised Rohit on social media for his remarkable physical resilience.

Powell shared a 2022 clip from an India-England ODI, applauding the Indian captain for resetting his dislocated shoulder independently. “This man deserves a ton of respect,” Powell remarked on his Instagram handle, ‘shoulder_physio.’

Rohit’s Shoulder Act Leaves Commentators Stunned

During the match at Lord’s Cricket Ground, Rohit fielded at cover and attempted to stop a shot from Liam Livingstone off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. As he leaped to his left, he dislocated his shoulder. Without hesitation, Rohit grasped his elbow, straightened his arm, and swiftly popped it back into place, leaving commentators shocked.

“Eoin [Morgan] said he does that a lot,” commented Nasser Hussain. “He dislocates his shoulder and pops it back in. Is it the elbow? Maybe it’s the elbow.”

Despite the pain, Rohit resumed fielding with a smile, sharing a laugh with Jadeja.

‘Ton of Respect’

Responding to the resurfaced video, Powell refrained from criticizing the act, acknowledging the mental and physical toughness it required. “This is simply very tough,” Powell said.

With the Champions Trophy win boosting his confidence, Rohit is set to lead India in the upcoming five-match Test series in England this June. The soon-to-be 38-year-old will also captain the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025, starting Sunday in Chennai.
