Rajasthan Royals suffered a setback ahead of IPL 2025. The 18th edition starts on March 22 with KKR facing RCB at Eden Gardens. RR begins their campaign against SRH on March 23, but Sanju Samson won’t lead for the first three matches. Recovering from a finger injury, Samson has temporarily handed over the captaincy to Riyan Parag.
The franchise stated that Samson hasn’t received clearance for wicketkeeping and fielding. However, he will still play as a specialist batter.

The franchise stated that Sanju Samson, a vital player for the Royals, will continue batting and resume captaincy once fully fit.
Samson rejoined the squad recently after finger surgery. He suffered the injury during India’s T20I series against England in February, requiring surgery.

Rajasthan Royals will play their first two home games at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati against KKR and CSK on March 26 and 30. The Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur will host their remaining home matches. The 2008 IPL champions reached the playoffs last season, finishing third, but fell short of the final after losing the eliminator to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
